In the last month, we have seen the tragic attacks on 62-year-old Ian Baynham in London and 22-year-old trainee constable James Parkes in Liverpool. Both attacks were carried out by gangs of youths and resulted in the death of Ian and serious head injuries for James, but the majority of crimes against gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people still go unreported.

Whilst the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize committee has awarded President Obama with this year's honour, citing his "extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples" and the President declared his commitment to remove the ban on gay people serving in the army, the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of San Marino Antonella Mularoni is interviewed today (13th October 2009) by the Equal Opportunities Commission about the decision to revoke Federico Podeschi from the role of Honorary Consul to San Marino in Wales.

A comprehensive school is set to become the first in Swansea to join a renowned scheme which tackles the problem of homophobic and transphobic bullying.
