Blood Borne Viral Infections (HIV and Hep B)

Blood Borne Viral Infections (HIV and Hep B)

Participants learn how these viruses work and gain knowledge of the conditions that increase the chances of infection. In doing so they will gain a greater security in working with people who are HIV or Hep B positive. Group activities include the discussion of myths about HIV and Hep B in order to develop a greater understanding. Demonstration of how the virus works adds a further interactive element to the programme which has proven extremely effective in developing an understanding around why HIV continues to exist today and what we may see in the future. Infection control policy is discussed as well as the rights of individuals who are either HIV or Hep B working within the service, as well as those of the client. Support mechanisms are spotlighted for both client and worker should HIV infection occur in either.
